The Black Heart Rebellion (09.09.07)

- Ok guys, let's get started, who are you and what do you play?

We are 6 friends who like to share our spare time hanging out
together and me the music we feel comfortable with. we find it difficult to describe our music, but here's a try: think the atmospheric sound of bands like Red Sparowes, Mono... in combination with the screaming intensity of June Paik or Buried Inside.

- Can you give a brief history of the band? Releases, touring, etc?

We started out as a 4 piece band, but soon we evolved to the group we are now. So far we released a split CD on Offerandum records in 2005, did a small Belgium tour with Jairus, and a European tour with Officer Jones and his patrol car problems. And now we are heading for our second Euro tour which will bring us to Slovenia...

- I've met most of you in person and I must say, all you guys are pretty different from each other, how did you get together to form this band, is there a 'leader' in TBHR?

There is no leader in the band. We write the songs together, just by rehearsing and trying things. I agree we differ from each other, but I rather see this as a positive aspect then as a negative. This means we have a lot off different influences that we have to deal with while making the songs, which leads to different ideas.

- How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you before?

Again, like I said in the first question. We can't give you a exact description of how we sound... the best way is to come and check us out live, also because the visual aspect brings a lot of extra intensity.

- So last summer you did an european tour with Officer Jones, do you have any cool stories to share?

Hahah, of course. From running away at night from the Czech police at the swimming pool at Fluff Fest, buying illegal weapons just before crossing the Czech border, making trips through the German corn fields at night, or visiting one off the biggest porn shops ever seen in Paris! Yeah!

6. Do you consider yourself a part of the hardcore/punk community? If so, how do you feel about the current state of it?

In the beginning our music was more hardcore related then nowadays... I don't know if we still truly consider ourself being part of the scene. I think we are somewhere on the border... The music maybe has the intention to reach a bigger audience, but the ideas we share are still hardcore or punk inspired. So, it's up to you to decide...

- What are your influences; Music, books, people?

Of course music is a big source of inspiration. Everything has already been done before, so it's stupid to consider yourself as a truly new and original band. The thing is to take ideas from what's already done, and try to adapt it to your own sound. Another important influence, is just the things going on around us. The life we are living, the things we share...

- So you guys have quite some (new) material by now, are you getting ready to release anything soon? Tell us about your plans for the next record.

Well, for the tour we are currently working on a DIY (see we are still thinking punk) promo cd, which has one new song, and two videos. It also comes in a nice package, but the whole thing is very limited. Beside this, we hope to finish a new full length somewhere mid 2008.

9. What do you think is the best thing that happened to you (as a band) so far?

We are all very exited about our coming tour. We play in a lot of beautiful places, and with some really nice bands. By the way, some one told us there are dolphins in the sea of Koper, so we are not leaving before we've seen those motherfuckers!

- Any last words and shoutouts?

Thank you for having this interview, and taking your time to read this. Come and see us at Lasko on 13/09, or in Koper at 14/09. We can go swim together then and try to find the dolphins! Yieha!
